4 Common Habits of Successful Dieters

By Caroline Monroe

The less calories you intake and the more calories you exert, the more weight you will lose. It seems like an easy equation to follow, but unfortunately for most, it is a tough formula to follow. If you want to lose weight and you want to know the real secrets behind a successful diet, you need to know more than just this formula.

Being able to commit to your weight loss goals and the ability to avoid temptations that will inevitably pop-up, is the number one key to losing weight. Having success in weight loss is created by habit and sticking to an exercise routine. This is a guaranteed result. Being able to lose weight will happen, but being able to lose weight in two weeks will only happen if you grasp these basic concepts.

"Lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks" is a specific goal. "Lose weight" is not. You must be able to be specific in your weight loss goals in order to achieve them. To make them come to reality, you have to be precise and accurate. If you do, you will be amazed at what happens to you and your figure. When you set specific goals, you mind and attitude will change and adapt in order to realize your goal. You will bridge the gap between where you are, and where you want to be.

Stick to a predetermined meal plan. Studies have shown that sticking to a meal plan that is already thought out will increase your chances at weight loss up to 2 - 3 times. When you are headed home and you know that dinner is a salad, but you end up defrosting a pizza, you are just sabotaging yourself and your ability to lose weight. Go with your first instincts and make the salad. Weight loss is easier and more effective with a predetermined meal plan.

Set the bar high, but not too high that you can't jump over. Remaining optimistic is very important in any difficult task, such as weight loss, but setting the bar too high or too low can hurt you. Know that positivity is essential to getting you to your goal, but make sure your being realistic. Losing weight can be tough and if your not motivated to work hard you may not reach your goals. Set goals, stay positive and work hard.

Strengthen your mind by flexing your "self-control muscle". In order to lose weight and to keep weight off you have to practice restraint. And I do mean practice. Strengthening your self-control muscle is a practiced art and it takes awhile to build up. You don't have to go full on, anti-junk food over night, but instead, opt for an apple instead of your usual bag of chips next time you are at Penera. Small things do add up and self-control is a learned thing. Take baby-steps.

Know the formula for successful weight loss. Eat less, and work out more. But know that that is not where it stops. Successful weight loss is 90% habit, motivation and goal setting. If you are able to figure these out then you are well on your way to losing weight fast and keeping it off for good. Stay positive and stay focused and you will have success.
