The Pressure to Look Super Feminine

By Elen Hanszen

The media perpetuates a feminine stereotype of women, and they feel pressure to adhere to this. Techniques that these outlets use to manipulate photos of models and actresses add to their already stereotypical image of women. Full pouty lips, large eyes, flawless skin, and high, full cheeks are the aesthetic standard these days. Major surgery is not always the answer to achieve these looks, and women are always seeking way to enhance their beauty. More often than not, it's the little touches that make the big difference and starting small can preserve a more natural look and prevent you from looking like you've had major surgery.

The face has signs of aging in many areas, but the lips start to look aged earlier than other areas. With a loss of volume and an increase of lines around the mouth makeup has a tendency to exacerbate the problem. Full soft lips are not just a sign of beauty, but also a sign of youth. The need for surgery is not always necessary, as lips can be enhanced in other ways. Fillers can provide a very natural solution to lips that are thin or losing volume.

Perlane, Restylane, and Juvederm are examples of hyaluronic acid fillers that work better than semi or permanent filler types, in order to enhance the lips. These fillers can be adjusted more simply, and don't end up with bumps or uneven areas.

Like the lips, this technique can also be used to clear up dark circles that appear under eyes, or fill in more hollow looking cheekbone areas. This is actually caused by the muscle being seen through the skin under the lower eyelid muscles, causing these dark circles to appear. The area around it will look darker colored and hollowed when there is no subcutaneous fat between the muscle and the skin. When this process is administered by a highly experienced physician and monitored and modified afterwards, it is not obvious that it has happened and looks normal.

A feminine look does not include having lines and wrinkles on the brows or forehead. Looking younger is a big part of what today's culture believes that feminine women should be. What looks good is a gently lifted eyebrow, no crows feet lines or brow pinch, and a forehead with reduced lines that is still able to move. Natural looking expressions will be maintained after a Botox treatment if it is done with expert care.

Flawless skin has always been the ideal for beauty and as we all age, men and women alike, our skin develops flaws and spots that may not have been there when we were young. Chemical peels are a way to offset some of these results of aging, but the type of peel that is most suitable can sometimes be hard to decipher.

There are a lot of things that a chemical peel can treat, including acne issues, fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots as well as replacing some skin elasticity. A chemical peel is a simpler and better option in many cases to get rid of the extra lower eyelid skin, than to have a surgery performed. A chemical peel in the eyelid region is a minimally invasive procedure that preserves your natural features while rejuvenating your appearance.
