Beware of online courses. Most online courses are not accredited by AHA. Those that are will say so upfront, and will make it very clear. Also, ensure that you understand and remember cardiac rhythms, and that you are able to read and interpret electrocardiograms without any problem. Make sure you have the required hands on skills. Practice basic CPR as many times as possible. Make sure to attend all classes and all practical hands on sessions, as they are the most important part of the whole course. During the certification testing, make sure you do not panic and take your time to answer questions.

Taking a class on reading electrocardiograms before taking the certification class may also assist you to pass the course. Tests are available for practice to help you prepare for the main certification exam. Make sure to go over all medication required and their doses, the common diagnosis for the conditions you are going to meet in the field, and be sure to understand all the algorithms linked to the training.
