How Wheat Starch Can Ruin Your HCG Diet

By Dr. Dennis Clark

The HCG diet offers hope to people that are serious about losing weight. However, it is important to follow directions when you are on this kind of program. What you eat is very important and it is vital that you keep wheat starch from your meals.

The first part of any HCG diet concerns eating a great deal for a few days, then you must stay on a low calorie meal plan for as long as you intend to lose weight. This plan works well because you are eating the right kinds of foods and you are maintaining consistency. Most people do not make mistakes at this point.

When people enter the maintenance phase of the HCG diet, they are prone to making serious errors. In order to maintain your weight, you cannot eat sugar and you must avoid certain carbohydrates. It is very important to avoid wheat products as they have starch that can cause many problems.

Wheat contains a complex carbohydrate starch and this starch has concentrated glucose or sugar. This is perhaps one of the easiest types of carbohydrates for you to digest. This may seem like a good thing, as most people seek to make their digestion process as simple as possible. Yet, bad things can happen when you digest complex carbohydrates too quickly.

Most people understand that they should not eat too many sugary foods if they want to lose weight. Sugar is high in calories and it also raises blood sugar significantly. Yet, your blood sugar will rise in a similar fashion if you eat a sandwich with wheat bread. When blood glucose rises rapidly it also drops suddenly, and this happens when you eat sugar or wheat starch.

When your blood glucose levels bottom out you get hungry as this signals the body that it is time to eat. However, it may have only been an hour or so since eating. This false sense of hunger is responsible for many people eating more calories than they need and is a major contributor to obesity.

If you would like to maintain weight loss with your HCG diet program you should try not to eat anything that contains wheat starch. Your blood sugar will not be prone to rapid rising and falling, and this will eliminate false hunger urges. You also will eliminate a lot of gluten from your diet, as many people are sensitive to gluten.
