Does Fasting For Weight Loss Work?

By Tom Taylor

Fasting for weight loss is not a new concept.

Experts have differing opinions when it comes to fasting. Some feel its a good practice, while others feel it can be detrimental to your health.

There are different types of fasting techniques but one that is pretty popular is intermittent fasting.

This fasting technique allows you to consume a normal diet on non fast days. Intermittent fasting can be done by rotating days of eating with days of fasting or 5 days eating and 2 days of fasting.

Below are three ways this technique can be effective for weight loss and improving your health.

Restricts Calories

Fasting is an ideal replacement for typical dieting because you can enjoy the things you like while still reducing your calorie intake.

Cutting calories in this way will promote healthy weight loss.

No Calorie Counting

When utilizing fasting as a method of weight loss you are not required to restrict what you eat as on traditional diets.

When you are on a fasting program, you do not have to adjust your meal plans because your overall daily calorie count will be lower when you consider the days you are fasting.

Fasting helps with weight loss because of the calorie restriction that occurs on the days you are not eating.

Improved Health And Longevity

Intermittent fasting has a number of other health benefits which include, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, regulating blood sugar and reducing the risk of alzheimer's disease.

Other benefits of fasting are mental clarity, increase in metabolism and higher energy levels.

To improve your results add an exercise program to your routine.

Adding an exercise plan to your life can only further enhance your weight loss and health.

While fasting, it is recommended that you eat a diet containing fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.

Drinking at least eight glasses of water daily is important as well, because it hydrates the body and eliminates toxins and wastes.

Fasting for weight loss can produce positive results when used on a regular basis. If you are thinking about using fasting as a way to lose weight, you should check with your physician before beginning to make sure your current health can support fasting as a way of life.
